Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of perceived family support in patient with chronic liver disease and burnout in primary family caregivers to offer basic data for nursing patients with chronic liver disease.
Methods: The subjects of this study were 116 caregivers who primarily take care of the patients in family over 12 hours a day and 116 patients who diagnosed with Hepatitis, Liver cirrhosis, HCC in a university hospital in Ulsan. Data analysis was done with t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe`s test and Pearson`s correlation coefficients using SPSS/WIN 12.0 program.
Results: Perceived family support in patients with chronic liver disease showed a high level and burnout in primary family caregivers showed a little bit low. The relationship between perceived family support in patients and burnout in primary family caregivers showed negative correlation.
Conclusion: The higher perceived family support in patients with chronic liver disease grew, the lower burnout in primary family caregivers was. Thus a nurse needs to find out the factors to influence perceived family support and burnout in order to provide nursing intervention for the well-being of a patient and family.
